As soon as the Notre Dame came into view I was in awe. It was gothic, grand, and looms over everything around it. The closer you get the taller it reaches toward the sky, gargoyles protruding from it. It has statues all over the exterior. We spent a long time taking in all of the details and creatures carved into it. We learned that in the 19th century the cathedral was supposed to be demolished, but the publication and popularity of The Hunchback of Notre Dame drew tourists from all over to visit the building and they were able to raise money to restore it.
And good thing too, because I was another tourist who wanted to see it! We walked all around it, enjoying it from different views. Then we went inside, which was also amazing. You can find out more about that experience here.
