The UK definitely wins when it comes to cool, old graveyards. Yes, I know, it’s creepy to take pictures of strangers, but how could I not get a few of this lady in a long, flowing, crimson cape?! I’m not convinced that she isn’t a ghost! With a history full of murder and witch hunts, Edinburgh is supposed to be one of the most haunted cities in Scotland and beyond. There are a lot of mysterious nooks, crannies, and stairways where spirits could dwell, and a slight chill in the air which can’t help but creep up your neck and give you the slightest notion that someone may have just passed through the peripherals of your mind!
This graveyard is famous for a few different graves, including Tom Riddle (it is said JK Rowling took inspiration from gravestones, and this is where she got the name for Voldemort) and Greyfriars Bobby! It is good luck to rub the statue’s nose, although apparently authorities want tourists to stop doing this, as they are rubbing it right off his face! Read the touching story about the dog here.
Old Calton Burial Ground
I just happened to stumble upon this graveyard on my way to Calton Hill. It is also full of very old tombstones and amazing sights!
